Miss Haversham

Miss Haversham is a character from Dickens' 'Great Expectations', who hasn't been jilted by an errant fiancé, but is unable to get married because of the Pandemic restrictions. It is a comment regarding the Covid restrictions imposed on the public by the Government.  The character is set in the year 2050 and has aged since her impending marriage of 30 years hence.  Mental health issues also are prevalent and represented in the costume with the use of pill packets in the embellishments.  The costume is made from 3 upcycled wedding dresses and the challenge was to make a design that would be able to make use of the limited amount of fabric available.  The rust dyeing represents her emotions, hopes and dreams rusting away inside her.
